Hi, and welcome to my site. My name is Anthony. I live in Park City, Utah. I have been obsessed with the night sky for over 10 years now. This site will attempt to convey my experiences in capturing the night sky digitally. For much of the time I’ve been interested in astronomy, I’ve been amazed by the ever improving results of “amateur” astro-photographers. Many of these so called amateurs are producing images that exceed the quality of top notch observatories only a decade or two ago. I have always wanted to join the ranks of this elite group. I’ve finally obtained the caliber of equipment that will (hopefully) allow me to venture in that direction.
Pictured here is a shot I took of myself and The ObDob, a 25″ Obsession Dobsonian Reflector. It was taken on a camping/observing trip in northern Utah’s Uinta Mountains. On a south facing ridge at 9400′, skies are about as good as they can get… easily reaching mag 7. You can see the constellation Taurus rising behind me. This is my favorite dark sky site for summer. It’s only about 90 minutes east of my home in Park City. From here, the Milky Way stretches from horizon to horizon… like its supposed to. It was just a few miles from this site, on a Kings Peak “expedition” that the night sky literally reached out and introduced itself to me. A blazing, fireball meteor caught my attention and has yet to let it go.
I hope that in visiting this site, you too will be drawn to the night sky… like thousands of generations before us.
